Guided Mushroom Foraging Adventure
- General Foraging & Fungal Education Tour
Come explore the fascinating world beneath your feet with Wy’east Mycology on a guided 3.5-hour fungal education and foraging experience on a beautiful 39 acre private farm near Sandy, Oregon.
We'll explore a diverse landscape of coniferous forest, open farm pastures, forest edges, and changing microhabitats—learning how trees, soil, moisture, elevation, season, and substrate influence the fungi we find.
Rather than simply hunting for edible mushrooms, we'll slow down and learn how to actually see the forest through a mycological lens.
Along the way, we'll search for and examine the fungi the land gives us that day. You'll learn mushroom anatomy, identifying characteristics, habitat and tree associations, ecological roles, responsible foraging practices, and how to begin navigating field guides and identification resources with confidence.
When appropriate, we'll handle selected specimens so you can get an up-close look at features such as gills, pores, teeth, stems, caps, veils, staining, texture, and other characteristics used in mushroom identification.
We'll also discuss some of the Pacific Northwest's best-known edible mushrooms and their important lookalikes. Because fungi are seasonal and wonderfully unpredictable, every tour will be different—and that's part of the fun.
This is an educational experience, not a harvest-for-dinner tour. Wild mushrooms encountered during the walk are studied for identification and education and are not collected for preparation or consumption.
