Little Sporelings Mushroom Adventure
Big forest adventures for little explorers
A kid-friendly mushroom and nature adventure near Portland, Oregon!
Little Sporelings Adventures are designed to give kids the freedom to slow down, get curious, get a little dirty, and discover just how much is happening beneath their feet.
Hosted by Wy’east Mycology at beautiful Scrumpy Forest Farm near Sandy, Oregon, these child-paced adventures take families through a diverse landscape of coniferous forest, farm pastures, forest edges, trails and changing microhabitats.
Instead of simply walking through the woods, we'll stop to investigate them.
Little Sporelings will search for mushrooms and other fascinating forest finds while learning how fungi help build healthy forests, break down fallen plants and trees, and form incredible relationships with the living world around them.
We'll peek under logs, investigate colors, shapes and textures, learn the basic parts of a mushroom, and discover why different fungi appear in different places. Questions are encouraged, distractions are expected, and stopping because someone found a really cool bug, leaf, mushroom or stick is absolutely part of the adventure.
Foraging for More Than Mushrooms
Our Sporelings will also learn that foraging isn't just about finding something to eat.
Each Little Sporeling receives a basket of their own and can responsibly gather natural treasures along the way—such as fallen leaves, grasses, cones and other materials—to decorate it and create a keepsake from their adventure.
Our goal isn't to teach children to pick and eat wild mushrooms. It's to help them develop curiosity, observation skills, respect for nature, and an understanding that fungi are an important part of the ecosystem around them.
And grown-ups aren't just there to supervise! Little Sporelings Adventures are meant to be explored together, giving children and their adults a chance to learn, ask questions and experience the forest side by side.
No previous mushroom knowledge is necessary for kids or grown-ups.
Because forests and fungi are always changing, no two Little Sporelings Adventures will ever be exactly the same.
Come explore, discover, create, and see just how much is happening beneath your feet. 🍄
