Forage & Feast

Explore the forest. Discover the fungi. Then gather around the table.

Join Wy’east Mycology at Scrumpy Forest Farm for an immersive afternoon of fungal exploration followed by a hearty, mushroom-forward feast.

Forage & Feast is offered Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays beginning at 1:00 PM.

We'll begin by heading into the diverse habitats of Scrumpy Forest Farm, exploring coniferous forest, farm pastures, forest edges, trails and changing microhabitats while discovering whatever fungi the land has waiting for us that day.

Along the way, we'll learn to see the landscape through a mycological lens—examining mushroom anatomy and identifying characteristics, tree and habitat associations, ecological roles, responsible foraging practices, field guide use, and some of the Pacific Northwest's best-known edible mushrooms and their important lookalikes.

When appropriate, we'll handle selected specimens and investigate the gills, pores, teeth, stems, caps, veils, staining, textures and substrates that help us begin figuring out what we've found.

Then, after an afternoon exploring the fungal world, we'll return to the farm where a warm mushroom feast will be waiting for us.

The Feast

Gather around the table for a build-your-own mushroom taco feast featuring locally cultivated lion's mane and oyster mushrooms together in a savory, beautifully browned taco filling.

We'll serve them with soft corn tortillas and plenty of fixings, alongside seasoned black beans, rice, tortilla chips, salsa and queso for a filling meal after our afternoon outdoors.

Vegan accommodations are available when selected during booking, and the meal is designed to be gluten-free.

This isn't simply lunch added onto a mushroom walk. The feast is part of the experience—an opportunity to spend the afternoon learning about fungi in their natural environment and then experience cultivated culinary mushrooms in an entirely different way around the table.

Foraging Without Harvesting Dinner

The “forage” and the “feast” are intentionally connected through education rather than through the dinner plate.

Wild mushrooms encountered during our adventure are there for observation, identification and learning. No wild mushrooms collected or handled during the tour are used in the meal.

Our feast is prepared separately using cultivated culinary mushrooms and intentionally sourced ingredients. This allows us to explore wild fungi responsibly without turning our walk into a race to harvest dinner.

Because wild fungi are seasonal and wonderfully unpredictable, every Forage & Feast adventure will be a little different.
